Not ever changing the lube, may contribute to not slipping, as the wear particles dispersed in the oil may help grab. But they also wear the internals more. If the use profile on the lube is not that severe (so its lubricating qualities do not break down), a magnetic drain plug could improve that, assuming all ferromagnetic particles, and I think they are.

most of the issues with Alfine (8 or 11) slippage or failure are directly related to misuse (shifting while pedaling), or cable tension issues (failing to adjust for slack or something getting caught in the cable).

There are also plenty of testimonies of Alfine hubs used on mountain bikes, cargo bikes, e-bikes and other heavy duty applications with zero issues.

I haven’t ever changed the lube on that particular bike partly because it has never showed that it needs it, and also partly just to see what happens.
