Free Bontrager SSR rims worth mounting to steel Trek road bike?
EDIT: meant rims obviously, not rooms.
Howdy folks, just got a free set of used Bontrager SSR rims from a friend, maybe 10-12 years old. Seem to be in good shape. My '89 Trek 420 currently has a mismatched wheelset of a 3-year old Alex R450 rear wheel and some no-name old aero front wheel thats a tad worn. Was gonna replace the front wheel with a matching Alex R450 until I got the SSRs. I know both are entry level, but which is the better course of action in terms of rideability and durability? Use the free wheelset, or get a matching R450 for the front? I use the bike for long distance recreational rides, no racing or touring (though I hope someday to do some kind of touring with it). Thanks.
