Rust is not a problem for a reasonably well-maintained steel frame, and titanium offers an almost trivial weight savings. So those are not very good reasons for choosing titanium. Oh, and the business about a bike lasting for the rest of your life, maybe even being an heirloom? Ask yourself this, and answer honestly: how long do you really think it will be until you want something new and shiny -again?

If you want a titanium frame, knock yourself out! But I would suggest getting something better than a Litespeed or a Lynskey, both of which are produced to a heavily discounted price point. For just a little more money than either of those, you could get an artisanal custom steel frame. Or for considerably more money, you can get a titanium frame from a builder who won’t cut corners. (You should be aware that titanium is harder to weld properly than steel… So if it’s done too quickly or shoddily it’ll potentially fail long before a good carbon fiber frame, and looong before a good steel frame.)
