You are exactly right about the calipers. I have a pair on the bike that I'm currently trying to complete. They seem to be very nice...everything that turns has a detente so that you have little indexed brake adjusters, etc. They don't say anything but Mavic on 'em, and the price is pretty steep on ebay (~$50 or so). I think I have the matching Mavic levers for these brakes, although this picture, from about 1992, shows those calipers with the sexy french lady's leg brake levers (this is a mavic neutral support "Yellow" bike, a cannondale). I'm not sure if the lever had a matching caliper, or they may have been sold individually.

The black brakes are the R3's. They are currently in production, and retail at about $190, for just the calipers. Does anyone know who makes these?
