I can relate to this. I don’t think I’d go so far as to buy a bicycle just for the crankset fitted, but I’d buy any of the following cranksets without a bicycle knowing I’d find the rest eventually…

Mavic 630 or 630 SSC
Dura Ace AX, as long as it had the matching Dyna Drive pedals and XL toe clips

I used to think the same way about the Mavic 631 Starfish but not so much these days.
