Bikes: Soma Double Cross Disc (2017), Surly DT (2023)

My experience was similar to what Rick describes: heavy rider, TRP Spyres had insufficient braking power from the hoods even with the Jagwire compressionless housing. I upgraded to the Juin Tech R1 (closed system, cable actuated hydraulic brakes), which I think are the same as Yokozuna Motoko (except they do not come with the cables/housing). Very happy with them.
I also recommended these brakes to a colleague for his Marin Nicasio (stock brakes were some Promax he was not happy with), he was very happy with them as well.
Juin Tech R1=post mount, F1=flat mount. They also have higher end models, I have not tried them - probably at that price point one should just go full hydraulic.
