That line was written by S.J. Perelman. During the 1920's, he drew cartoon panels for Judge, a long-defunct humor magazine (example: a guy with crutches and a pinned-up pant leg says to a guy holding a prosthetic limb: "What! You Want Fifty Dollars Just For Remembering Me???) and worked as a Hollywood screenwriter. He went on to write humor pieces for the New Yorker from the '30's to the '50's.
I believe I have read everything he ever published, including his letters. If I had to pick a formative writer in my life, it would be him or Shakespeare.
The Marx Bros had other great writers, though, notably George S. Kaufman.
