I was just watching a car repair YouTube video and they showed a guy that repaired a badly frayed bike cable by attaching a small zip tie tightly to the good part of the cable. He then cut the zip tie to a convenient length and spun the zip tie off with his fingers. The spinning zip tie repaired all the cable strands as it came off. Very cool. He even crimped a new end on.
