I think you missed the point I was making with the illustration, which is that the pedaling motion isn't necessarily ergonomic and that devices like oval chainrings or frame flex offer the ability to deliver energy better - not get some extra for free.
so you're saying that it is "better" energy delivery for the cyclist to flex the frame, and then have that energy returned in the form of forward motion (somehow), than to turn the pedals/crank/chain/wheel?
