I wasn't quite clear in my post- the reason the 82 is desirable for the 650B conversion is because it does not have canti studs -

However the 1982 doesn't have the features of the 83-85 bikes like the brazed on shifter mounts, the under the down tube bottle boss and the under the BB cable routing.
