I wasn't quite clear in my post- the reason the 82 is desirable for the 650B conversion is because it does not have canti studs -
However the 1982 doesn't have the features of the 83-85 bikes like the brazed on shifter mounts, the under the down tube bottle boss and the under the BB cable routing.
Some (if not all) 82 720s have the bottle bosses under the downtube. I was under the impression that all of them did, but I guess I can't say for certain.
