I too use the same walkable shoes and double sided SPD's, but I do miss the discontinued Speedplay Frogs.
I liked them for two reasons, very easy entry and exit and a lot of float available.
It sounds like you prefer the more locked in pedals.
A few years back I began disengaging from my pedals for steep/long descents when traffic permits.
I wanted to get more years out of a partial knee replacement I had 12-13yrs ago.
The Frogs were perfect for slamming my cleats back in with the cranks still spinning at a pretty high speed.
The spd's are a harder target to hit cleanly.
