I can't tell you how many curbs and bulb-outs in my area have huge chunks taken out of them. It's not hard to imagine that the force required to dislodge that chunk had some consequences to the unskilled and inattentive drivers vehicle. Good. 'Cause everyone of them is a kid waiting for a school bus or a pedestrian that didn't get killed.
Visited Scottsdale recently and they use a lot of bulb outs on residential streets. It was amusing to see how much damage there was. They were widespread enough that it's not as if anyone should be surprised to encounter them. Probably provides good business for repair shops doing front end work.
