What is the best steel fork available today? I want something that is designed to be high performance—low weight, high durability—not something that’s optimized for cost. I prefer a more relaxed rake. I need a 1” steerer. My bike is set up for a threaded fork but I could go threadless. Rim brakes; higher-than typical tire clearance (30mm?) would be a huge plus.

Background: I just purchased a 1994 Specialized Allez Pro. That was the last year (IIUC) that they did the steel framed road bikes. The 1994 Allez Pro (like my 1993 Allez Pro I bought a couple years ago) has an aluminum fork and rim brakes. I am about to repaint the bike and I am thinking to replace the fork with a steel one at the same time.

This isn’t a cost-is-no-object project but I am not looking to cheap out either.
