I suspect the very best were full on custom rigs. I know that Weigle and Mooney both made some great touring rigs even if my personal Mooneys were designed as 90s era road racing machines. I suspect that also the great left coast builders made some nice touring rigs. Even in my home state, I tend to believe that Fattic (hey Doug!) has made more than a few nice tourers.
