Dunno about “scientifically valid,”. But Delrin coexists with lubricants inside the Simplex front mechs. Those do not survive, but I think their springs are really strong, more so (IMHO) that the stress on a headset, despite the higher loading of a headset bearing. I have not heard much grieving over fractured headsets, over the years.
