I owned a Petersen/Pineapple Bob Bridgestone RB-T in Jr. and High School in the early 1990s. Is that vintage? It was a very nice bike--long since stolen--but as an actual tourer not really fully developed. I needed P-clips for the upper rack stays, for instance.
Since then, I have wondered if actually the best tourers are early 90s MTB with drop bar conversions. Back then, they were slower on the road, but now I realize that they were available in big sizes, were very stable, and could carry loads. And with today's tires, they move fast enough on the road, if that is what you need.
But, I would still take any of these road-based tourers on aesthetics alone
