I think I can handle a wee bit of flex (especially with no front derailleur). But did you ever have the bike completely apart? I've never had a rear brake cable routed through the top tube before -- is there an interior "guide tube" for the inner wire, or for the entire housing, or do I solder a new wire to the old one to route it through -- or will trying to "fish" a new cable through drive me to binge drinking?
