What you get in Wisconsin is similar to here, if not slightly warmer, and depending on how close you are to the lake, wetter.
It's actually "do-able" here, without studs- on a MTB with "semi-cruiser/commuter" tires, as long as you are willing to

A.) Dress for it....

B.) Gear down and...

C.) Slow down.

It takes a bit of patience, and more importantly, safety care, to do so.
Be prepared to "pole foot" it through the tighter turns.
