regarding the freezing switch...were any active parts replaced or just passive switches? a power cycle implies some active parts but i would expect an electro-mechanical part replacement only. a few times i've had remote controls that had buttons that failed after time. dust or other dirt gets in between the conductive parts preventing switch closure. disassembly and cleaning with rubbing alcohol has fixed that every time for me.
