As others have mentioned, you have to juggle hand position(s) on the main bar and hand and (especially) forearm pad position on the aero bar. The usual problem for me was that a comfortable placement of the flat bar (for my preferred moderately aggressive position) put the forearm pads too far forward. I decided that the flat bar hand position was less important to me than the aero bar/forearm pad position, so I installed a stem with less reach.

That did the trick. And the flat bar position turned out to be fine.
