Simple question, just like topic says- do you need to "shake" dirty chain when in mineral spirits?

Point of question is, I don't want to break chain with chain tool so I was wondering would it be feasible to remove rear wheel and just soak hanging part of chain in a bucket with mineral spirits for few hours? Would it clean that part of the chain throughly? Because if so, I could get clean chain in few go's. Note, it's a bike without derailleurs.
