Touch up paint and clear coat
Several years ago I sanded into the decal on a carbon fork, dissolved it with acetone and then sprayed clear coat over. After buffing it with automotive scratch remover it looked like it was made that way.
Now I have an '80s black frame with lots of light scratches and chips. I have used a tiny detail brush to fill the chips and the deeper scratches, and they look okay. Will clear coat and buffing over the top of touch ups hide the varying textures of paint, blending things? Would an application of scratch remover over the touch up paint prior to cleaning and clear coat work better?
Or am I kidding myself?
The frame is in nice enough shape with most of the decals intact. It is not worth it to me do an actual repaint, but I am game to re-clear coat it to hide the paint touch ups and restore some shine to the 40 year old paint.
