The derailleur is aligned correctly (outer plate parallel to the largest chainring, 1-3mm gap to the teeth). with no cable attached and the lower limit screw all the way out, the chain is rubbing against this black plastic piece on the 4 highest gears while being on the smallest chainring. so I basically have to shift to the middle of the cassette to reach a small gap to the chain and no rubbing occurs.

I wonder are you supposed to remove that piece in case of rubbing? will this have a negative effect on shifting? just physically it takes away a good amount of space for the chain and since my low limit screw leaves no more adjustment to move the fd further in, I see no other way than removing the plastic piece.
