Love the Ultegra 3 X 9 on my 2003 Speedster. It's aged well for us. Our low gear is now 26 X 40. The crankset is now 53-39-26, works great. The 39 is getting hard to find, need to have the triple version. Had to switch the left brifter and front derailleur to 10-speed to run the 39.
Hi Carbonfiberboy, may I ask for suggestions on how to fit a 40t cassette on a 3x drivetrain? I currently have a 10 speed 11-32t cassette on my Ultegra 6700 rear derailleur and not sure how it could be increased.
I am looking into options for setting the tandem up for touring and so far, I have keeping the 3x10 and changing my inner chainring to 26t, so 26/39/52 with 11-32t cassette. Or changing to 2x11 50/34 with 11-40t cassette using either wolftooth roadlink or GRX 810 rear derailleur.
