As it is winter, dark and gloomy, some may consider the following gimmicky but I still think it is useful:

1) garmin varia rear light radar, it is a gadget, arguably a gimmick but it is very useful when cars are coming behind especially as the sound made by one car may "hide" others which are picked up by the radar. And, all the garmin computers pick the signal so when I ride at the back, the kids gets the car warning on their units too.

2) "shine bright" front light (trace velo did something about it); they are powerful but the nice little gimmick is the little remote control that allows switching from main beam to full beam. that s nice courteous feature.
