unterhausen is probably right BUT back in the 1980s, there was a school of thought that said get your cadence up in the winter. Some did this by riding a fixed gear bike with a low ratio. I heard this advice in the winter of 1981/1982 and spun like mad. I can still spin fast, possibly because of that conditioning. I can, but I don't, because I don't need to, but it's good to have the ability.
