handmedown , I see from your sig that you're in Norwalk, which isn't exactly big hill country. If I were you, I'd find a 13-28 Sunrace freewheel (they're cheap!) and just try riding with that and the 42/52 chainrings already on there. You may find you've got low enough gearing (for now..... if you keep with it, age will surely demand lower gearing someday!).
