I have not tried Pirateship but was curious based on these posts. I entered details for a bike to ship via Bikeflights & Pirateship and the resulting numbers were almost exactly the same:

Based on a box 54"L x 8"W x 30"T (which is the dims of the last complete bike I shipped)
Weight of 30lbs (doesn't seem to affect price much)
Shipped from CA to NY

Bike Flights = $92.09 - shipping
$1,000 coverage = $12.80
Bikeflights shipment with coverage = $104.89 (pretty sure that's what I paid last shipment I made)

Pirateship = $94.80 - shipping
Did not see insurance option? I am sure it is there, probably similar price, but I didn't sign up for account
