Hello all,

Last year I was able to replace a blown GEM2 module with the help of this thread! Thank you to all that have contributed their knowledge!

As luck would have it I fried another GEM2 a couple of weeks ago with a static discharge when I went to get on the bike. I think I touched the saddle rail and got a static shock. I have already replaced the module again and everything is working great again.

My Kickr sits in my basement on a Wahoo mat on a carpeted floor. I had been unplugging the power brick after every ride to try and eliminate the static build up. This obviously did not work. I am currently trying a different approach to reduce the static risk. I now have the power brick plugged into a WiFi outlet that I turn on with my phone or iPad AFTER I am on the bike and ready to ride. I don't know if this will solve my problem or not but my thought is that at least the module isn't energized if I have another static discharge when getting on the bike.

Anyway, just thought I would share my little idea in case anyone else is having static problems. It's fairly cheap and easy, hopefully it works! Oh yeah, side note, after I replaced the GEM2 this time I went back to North Pole Engineering to write a review and noticed that instead of listing the price for the module the site now says "Request Price". I don't know what this means exactly but I hope it isn't an indication it is being discontinued....

All the best,

Travis
