looks like it probably a mix of assembly grease (I hate white lithium) and/or frame saver (smells like jp wiegle)

heat did not do a lot, spent more time with brass brushes and found a steel brush that I used plumbing and that helped a lot

finally found my inspection mirror and junk does not go more than an inch or so into the tubes
