1X5. Pictured with Suntour bar end and the Criterium rear derailleur getting ready for CX a few months ago. Today it has the single Simplex shifter on the downtube and a Shimano 105 rear derailleur on a modified hanger because the Simplex pulleys disintegrated. Shifts great and never dropped a chain on or off road with a normal 39 chainring and 14-28 FW.

I don't do: disks, tubeless, e-shifting, or bead head nymphs. But I do hate all e-bikes.
