Here's an odd one. I ran over a small stick, and the way it engaged with my rear derailleur resulted n a broken derailleur main spring. The thing couldn't take slack out of the chain any more. If I was many miles from anywhere, I would have maybe cut the chain down to where I could ride singlespeed to a town with a shop.
