maybe this should be a new thread, but I did find out a little bit about AMCs.

Yesterday we were riding around the neighborhood, looking for open houses to see whats shaking in the local housing market. Pedaling down a quiet street, there was an old looking bike parked in this guys front yard. He's using the front basket & pannier baskets as planters. Since he was outside, I yelled to him 'nice bike.' Well, one thing leads to another & he shows us his garage full of old hardware. I'd guess he has 50-75 bikes in there, from the 30s through the 60s.

Anyway, he'd heard of AMC and reports it as a department store brand, from either JC Penny or Woolworths.
