I ended up getting another Ryobi inflater. It has a 3 year warranty, fwiw. I made a point of saving the receipt. It works fine, so far. It inflates the canister to 120 psi with no sound effects or burning smells. So far.

The last 3 tires I mounted all required me to use the inner tube pre-setup trick (I tried without first). It really does help, and it is easy enough to do.
