Although I am certain there are people out there that have used generic barbs and such successfully, I haven't met one yet. We tried using other branded stuff with Shimano brakes during Covid, but that was a mistake. Now the shop only uses Shimano bits that come from an industry vendor that gets them directly from Shimano.
As for pricing, who knows what is going on.
