Had an absolutely ****** week last week. On Sunday, wife and I made the decision that it was time to say goodbye to our 13 year old boy Bubsie. He had been on a slow decline since his sister passed in 2023, but he began to show signs of suffering vs discomfort and was likely beginning liver failure. We had a vet come to our house Tuesday morning where he was able to go to sleep peacefully while munching on his favorite snack of fruit and veggies. We buried him in the backyard Tuesday night. I dug a 5 foot deep hole back in October before the ground froze so we would be able to do this regardless of when he passed.
Tuesday night I started to get a sore throat and at first thought it was just from crying / being stuffy. Not so much.
woke Wednesday with a nearly 102 fever, aches, dry cough and lots of congestion. Covid tests were negative. I continued to go downhill through the week and finally went to urgent care Thursday. Turns out it was the flu. I’m finally starting to feel somewhat human, but still very weak. I tried to walk Penny this AM and had a lot of trouble in our regular 1 mile loop. The weather is finally turning nice and I just want to ride my bike.
here’s Bubsie on his last day:
He loved to sit in the sun. We spend close to 90 minutes outside with him.
In positive news, my daughter made the varsity track and field team as an 8th grader. I’m excited for her to get some good coaching that she will listen to (she doesn’t listen to me).
