I have searched, and while there are many results on pad thickness as regards when to replace, yet i find little on how thick new pads should or could be. But one poster on this bike forum
states "New pads start around 2 mm," and Google AI also states (if i specify
"bike" in my search), "New bicycle disc brake pads typically start with a pad material thickness of around 2mm, with the backing plate adding another 2mm, for a total of 4mm."
I measured different disk pads in my collection with a caliper (a single pad and the steel), then all were 3.8 to to 4mm. I am wondering if these come any thicker, and or which type is so, though longevity is not necessarily determined by thickness, nor stopping power.
