The SSR likely has a body that is compatible with 'Shimano HG' cassettes. See the thin spline & the adjacent thick 'gap' in the below, left diagram.
Hub length also noted, so if the SSR is 8/9/10 length, spacers needed behind the 7 sp cassette, 4+mm to secure with the lockring.
Excellent. Yes, hub body has the one thin spline and the gap as you describe, and measures about 35mm so 8-10 speed, needing three spacers (?). Much appreciated, thanks, and thanks to all who have responded to this thread, I've learned a lot. Where did you find all this information?
