A million times this. No one should ever wear lycra or other obvious cycling-specific clothing when not competing in a race. Doing so is deleterious to collective and individual cyclist safety -- because all of the non-cyclists subsequently think "What a weirdo. Who would go out in public dressed like that?". They shouldn't think this, but they do. And this contributes to the "us vs them" road safety situation. It also contributes to depressing cycling uptake, because non-cyclists see those weird clothes and think "I can't bicycle, there's no way I could wear something like that."

Wear normal-looking clothes all the time, unless you are in a race.
