We got our tandem in ... 2013? I think? Avid Juicy cable actuated disks. They've worked flawlessly (except when I nudged the rotor once - putting it on the rack? knocking it over? don't remember - the front rotor "zinged" for a while each rotation, until I fixed it).

Road bike: 2023, because that's what the bike I wanted came with. These are hydraulic.

I do like the disks. They're heavier, but changing pads is a breeze and they work fine - better than rim brakes when it's wet, if you don't mind the squalling. Would I go out of my way to get a bike with disk brakes? No. Rim brakes also work fine, I've ridden them for decades without wishing for better brakes.

I do, however, have a marked preference for disks over cantis. Changing pads on cantis is a PITA.
