I ride my Specialized Tarmac with a 52/36 up front and a 11/34 cassette. It works very well for me. My Lemond Zurich is a triple with a 52/42/30 up front and a cassette of 12-28. If I'm ever in that 30-28 low gear ratio I'm probably on a very steep hill that I shouldn't be on!
