For an old French town bike you might want to try these. 650 x 44B, made by Casumina. Basically an old Michelin tire. I received a set a few weeks ago, which I ordered from France.

Not the latest in tire technology, and they're pretty heavy, but other than that I rather like them for the casual riding I use them for.
