How do you transport a group of bikes?

Sounds simple. How do you get 20 bikes from point A to point B without damaging peoples' pride and joy..?

Situation:
- Organizing a charity ride from Cullman AL, to Atlanta GA this coming November. Work colleagues
- 185 miles. One day ride. Relay format
- Raising money for the Kyle Pease Foundation to assist those guys in buying a new racing wheelchair (check these guys out, very cool what have done and continue to do..!)
- Likely be 20 riders
- Meet in Atlanta on the Friday, transport bikes to Alabama on Friday. Overnight. Ride day Saturday
- 6 legs. Will need to switch out riders and bikes quickly at each station

I see no options to hire a 20 bike trailer (ideally state of Georgia +50 mile radius)
We could modify a 16' stakebed truck in a similar fashion to a previous ride we organized through France, Belgium and Germany. Though takes time, and no guarantee of success, especially as not damaging a rental vehicle and limited build time

Any ideas?

Ideally quick and uninhibited release of bikes
Safe transport, especially the 3 hour journey Atlanta to Alabama
Looking for rental option given 1-day event. Purchase of trailer/vehicle not on the cards
Road bikes

Thanks in advance!!
