Doubles are not finicky like triples. The MTB double is likely however to have a smaller cage just due to being for smaller rings.
38 to 46 is a huge jump! Is it a gravel bike crank? Will it still fit on your bike if the q factor is smaller? Did you check the chain line?
You can run the right FD for the crank and adjust the FD pull with a Jtek Shiftmate
