If you bought a Davidson frame and kitted it out with worthy wheels and components you'd be in for a thousand bucks at the end of the day. Compare it to what you would get new in your LBS for 1K. Of course, as a cheapskate and retrogrouch, I would never pay $1K for a bike. I would buy a frame and build it up with parts from various sources and not aknowledge the cost at the end of the day was over a grand.
