I used to get that with a 4iiii crank on the road bike. Every time it happened, it was the power meter that was failing and went back twice to Canada... the 3rd time it failed, it went in the bin... and I got another set of Garmin pedals. Now, regardless of the discipline (XC, CX, gravel, TT), the power remains consistent.
