never.
the Deore RD-M8100 is marketed as a 1x12, but also works wonderfully on 2x10, 11, 12, etc., .... and would also work fine in a 3x of reasonable range,,, rear derailleurs simply don't care about what the front chainline is, unless it's WAY off centered by a bad BB spindle choice... but it would still do it's task with the rear gears.
to say the ders. "won't work" with 2x or 3x is just plain wrong.
Perhaps I didn't explain my point clearly - I made no reference to chainline, but instead to the varying height of the top pulley (or its distance from the sprocket) when it is far offset from the cage pivot, as it seems to be with Shimano and SRAM 1x derailleurs, others maybe not so much.
