I don't think it would be wise for Strava to go into the hardware side alone. +1 on reasons stated above; HOWEVER, IF they collaborated with a hardware maker and jointly developed the "next generation" analytics type software that runs the hardware with real-time analytics, they could really have a winning combo.

I'm a dyed-in-the-wool Garmin guy but I do acknowledge that Wahoo has some compelling real-time wind resistance analytics to offer on-board their devices. Evolve that technology with the in-depth analytics that Strava offers and woah-boy, that could be a game changer.
