Maxxis are not a go-to brand for me either, because back in the early 2000s, I tried a pair of their road tires, the Detonator, and they were my introduction to both the meaning and significance of rolling resistance. I got them to replace some Conti Grand Prix because I thought the blue shoulders on the Detonator would look awesome with bike's coloring scheme. They did, but man, I could not believe how incredibly slow those tires were; I felt like I was always having to work hard, even downhill! It was crazy, and in a fit, I replaced them with Conti's Grand Prix Attack/Force pair. I never looked at Maxxis seriously after that.
